The man needs no introduction. Yet Colonel Sanders' story and how he made KFC what it is today is definitely worth a mention.

The Colonel began operating from a service station in Kentucky in the '30s. He cooked for hungry travellers who stopped for petrol, serving them at his own dinner table.

As his fame grew, so did his business. Over the next 10 years he mastered his secret blend of 11 herbs and spices and the basic cooking technique that is still used today.

From 1955 to this day, the KFC empire has grown from 600 franchises across the US and Canada to over 32,500 units in more than 100 countries and territories across the world.
